We also technically weren't a real nation yet, so I wouldn't count those guys at all.

This was before the government had any real power, so they were most likely appointed, not elected. After a few years when the nation was still bunk, they decided to "re-format" everything. This was when Washington was elected. So technically Washington was the first President under the government we have now, because during the Articles of Confederation the country was more like the League of Nations(post WW1) than a nation.

This is probably why they were left out as being included in the list of Presidents. However, I agree that they should be at least recognized in the average US History book.

I researched this back my Junior Year of High School.. Sadly I can't find the paper i wrote on it. However I do remember being against the idea of including these guys as official Presidents and pushing Washington back to #11. However I do believe they should be mentioned in the history books instead of left out completely like in many books they are.
