Seriously though, I find it such a peculiar-sounding word that I have my own definition for chump. Namely: I consider those who use the word chump, to be chumps.

Funny thing is, Im seriously not implying a link between people who use this word and the proper definition of chump. Just an emotional valuation of the word that has kinda grown on me. (Does that make any sense to anybody?)

-I create the illusion that I frequently go to bars? Dont read things between the lines that are not there. I am saying that when I go to bars, certain things annoy me. Then I state that as a result I do not go to them often. That seems perfectly consistent to me.
-I am having trouble spotting the word 'always' in my sentence mentioning smokers standing 'between me and my victim' as you word it. I mention in a sentence that is quite seperate from the first that I find such a situation even worse. But apparently you would not be annoyed by such things unless they happened at least 50 times to you. Unfortunately, I'm just not that patient.

My post is a part of this thread, it is not intended to be read by itself completely out of context. So if people do'nt read the thread, then I consider that their problem, not my own. If some part of a user agreement refers to "the service" it's not particularly clear what is meant by that unless one has read the definitions earlier in the contract.

In the questionable case you really couldn't figure this out: When I said 'real' public buildings I intended to imply that I do not consider a pub as such. This is a rather vague thing if it is not further expounded upon, so... my bad.

I have to say, I find it pretty annoying when I walk into a pub and my lungs suddenly get filled with all the trash smokers left floating about. Its worse when someone smoking and breathing in your general direction is near to someone interesting you're trying to have a conversation with.

Then again, that's part of it being a bar I guess =p And as a result I do not often visit them. So for the argument of bothering non-smokers, I think every pub should decide that for themselves, if every single one judges that it is better for their business, then so be it. People can just 'not go' if it bothers them. Stuff like schools, airports, hospitals, other real public buildings and places of work etc. are a different matter though imho. People should be able to stay there without being troubled by smokers. (Of course one might argue that a pub is a place of work, but considering 1.  the generally small portion of all people present made up by workers and 2. the fact that it could be argued that this is very relevant for the business and there can thus in the hiring process there can be discriminated between whether someone is willing put up with smoke or not) So yea well, anyway... restaurants and stuff are the same imo... it's up to them. Though for restaurants its generally better for business to just seperate the smokers and non-smokers. So I guess it wouldnt be unreasonable o demand from proper restaurants they have a well-ventilated no-smoking area.

Ah well, w/e.

But you see... I think the point is not so much, or at least not entirely to shield non-smokers. It is also an attempt to isolate smokers and put them in a socially inferior position. Basically its a way to get smokers to quit, since increasing the price has only a limited effect. (Though it IS useful, since it hits young smokers hardest and can discourage I guess.)

I personally dont mind much, I dont think there is a constitution which gives people the right to smoke... so whereever it is relevant, discriminating between smokers and non-smokers is perfectly justified.

'It is so annoying that when I go to bars there's always this guy who smokes, who stands between me and my victim'. Then in the second paragraph you claim you do not often visit bars. Make up your mind, do you or don't you visit bars?
- 'should decide that for themselves' Should decide what for themselves? You should only use 'that' when referring to something stated earlier in your paragraph. It is very unclear what 'that' is, unless you've read the whole thread.
- Insert a full stop after the word 'themselves' and start a new sentence with a capital letter on the word 'If'. Otherwise you create an unacceptable run on sentence.
- 'Not go' or stay home? (What are you doing tonight? Oh, I'm 'not going' to the pub.)
- Are schools, hospitals and airports 'stuff' or rather locations/public buildings/(insert anything else applicable here)
- 'Other real public buildings' Are you telling me that when I go to the city hall, the walls might collapse because they're made out of styrofoam?!  :shock:  :shock:
- Also, are you telling me that pub visitors are the mere product of the bar tenders' creative mind?! 'Made up by workers'
