(The VM runs Debian 13 now. It was Debian 8 or 9 before.)

The fact that it didn't in the past was due to this bug https://www.faldon.org/topic/7780/ which is now fixed. Unfortunately the code is in a place I can no longer edit so can't change the behavior.
