Anyhow, the death toll doesn't seem to be all that high after all though it's still huge obviously. As for comparing Katrina to 9/11. I think something both disasters have in common is, that the reaction following them made things much worse than they were/should've been.

I mean, Katrina was awful and all, but if 1. The catastrophe had been better realized in an earlier stage, and 2. The people of New Orleans had reacted in a better way (obviously one cannot generalize an entire city, but nevertheless all the looting, shooting and 100x more disgusting stuff like rape is shocking in a city that is part of the supposedly 'civilized West'. Same for 9/11, it was horrible by itself obviously. But Bush' reaction did not really make matters any better; Afghanistan was somewhat justified but I dun think we need to start a discussion on Iraq all over again. (And yes 9/11 did give Bush the momentum to start that, and he has used it as a reason for the war on more than one occasion. And that's not even considering all the indirect implications/images invoked.) Suffice to say that whilst the reaction following 9/11 did so much more damage, materially, in massive loss of life in Iraq (mostly Iraqis but a lot of US and British troops as well), and obviously the image of the US and the entire West for that matter. Ah well, I'm not really looking to start yet another discussion on that, this thread was originally about Katrina after all.

Hrmmm, perhaps if ur gonna whine about lazy-phonetic-likish representations of words like 'mebbe' instead of 'maybe' =P (and in that very sentence you're instead of ur and probably instead of prolly, hehe)

If you insist on proper use of apostrophes, I guess it'd be I'd instead of Id and isn't instead of isnt.

Other than that... well there is one thing, I used neccesarily instead of necessarily... (OMG!)

But since you said 'typo' rather than 'spelling error' you're actually (probably) wrong. Since all those slangy/crappy replacements of words I did were intentional and since 'neccesarily' was definitely not a typo but an error due to my poor English proficiency rather than poor finger coordination.

And for you Penny- You're absolutely right, this is such a huge deal it's really hard to comprehend on many levels. I don't think many people understand how big of a deal this was, because there was no scare, no media hype like following 9/11. Nothing to be afraid of (unless you have coastal residence, I suppose). We'll hear "Remember 9/11" for years, but not "Remember Katrina", hell, I don't even know what day it happened on. All in all, please donate- It's still very much needed.

Oh, and I hope you also check out some unbiased media as well as Rush Limbaugh to get your news, Oman.    Rush Limbaugh is definately one of the most biased media people in history....at least Bill O'Reilly makes attempts to veil his bias.

Id say bias is more like, a preference/tendency towards some thing or point of view. Which CAN (but does not neccesarily) lead to unfairly favoring something. (Basically something which tends to prevent you from being neutral/impartial I guess)

I guess truthful bias isnt really very sensible (they might mean bias that did not disturb the conclusion reached by evaluation since evaluation by any (or specifically that) person without bias should lead to the exact same conclusion... then again, mebbe not? ) , but I guess something like 'justified bias' or 'sensible/understandable bias' is more meaningful already.
