Start with Dashiva in the main town of Valour and buy Magic Missile and Night sight.

Then you will want to go to Oran in the Palladin town and buy fireball.

Jakob sells spells also except last time i checked....Very expensive.

press Shift+F4 to bring up the Faldon Market and the Third Tab along will contain spells.

For Lumberjacking you need an Axe...that is all...any kind of axe...a cheap one can be picked up for under 20gp.

Carpentry you will need a Saw which can also be purchased for i think 50gp from Fletcher in Wuville.

I reckommend starting the game as a Warrior...as they are much easier a.k.a Cheaper to level. Use your warrior to get money and then invest that money into a mage character.

Lumberjacking is a nice way to start making money...Fletcher in Wuville buys Lumber for 300gp/1k lumber...and many players will pay that or even more sometimes.
