If he gives more info then I can do a better solution. I did have a problem where the patcher got stuck on a file. Cant remember what I did, maybe a reinstall?...
But yea if it cant patch at all then it is probley a firewall problem.

This seems like a firewall issue to me.  I bet your patcher is blocked from connecting to the net.
