The game runs slowly for me on Vista/Windows 7.
If you have this problem, click Options at the starting screen, then click Display's Setup button. Uncheck Hardware Acceleration and Direct3D Lighting. Click OK and run the game.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Zer,

I am currently running Vista 64 bit and have fixed all driver issues with the components that occupy this computer. I tried turning on and off settings to alleviate the lag but have not found the cure. The symptoms of Vista Faldon for me are about 3 minutes of good game play then a bog down system that turns into uncontrollable 0.XX FPS stuff. It cycles through that for the most part. I have checked faldon to run in XP Compatability mode for all users and it seemed to help a little. I noticed the Memory Usage in the Processes Tab shows faldon far above what it should be. This to me show maybe memory dumps not working well with Vista?

Do you have any input on how to set a limit for the memory to dump faster ? What can I do to make this work.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

As for changing settings, first things first, is your setup program called setup.exe (older download) or config.exe (newer download)? If the former it is probably ignoring your settings changes as it is reading from Vista's virtual store and writing to the actual file.

As to your question, it sounds to me like the game is continually allocating memory, and then your system runs out of RAM and has to swap to disk. So we'd have to figure out what it's allocating memory for.

If you turn off absolutely everything in both Video and Sound, does it still occur?

Re: Vista and Windows 7

It is a Config.exe, confirmed that.

8 Gigs of RAM and I have only had it once get up to 5GB of use (with a monitoring system) and that was not with faldon involved big_smile.

I will turn off everything just to confirm the last question and let you know what I find.

Windowed mode or Full screen. Same scenario. You think it has to do with anything about the way faldon was coded and how it runs on a 32 - bit OS vs a 64 - bit OS?

No. I am running it on 64-bit Vista just fine.
Do you have any software that might hook in and alter the way the game interacts with the OS? (antivirus, firewall, anything strange?)

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Tell you what, get Process Monitor at:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi … 96645.aspx

You'll want to set it to filter on client.exe. I'd be curious if, when it slows to a crawl, it's accessing files continually. If not we could rule out disk I/O. If so we could figure out why.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Any luck on this?

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Hmm, if my previous post was too technical, alternatively if you can capture me a log from Process Monitor it may help to see if the problem is disk related, etc.

After starting Process Monitor, set its Filter... menu option to allow client.exe and nothing else. Then just run the game, save the log it writes and e-mail me it. I'll take a look and we'll see

Thanks

James

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Sorry, Been busy working. The file is not exactly small, won't cut the .5 mb budget on the website. What email would you like me to send it to. You can mail me on the email attached to this account and I can reply to it. GMAIL has great large file capabilities if you have one.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Not sure if you received my email but it would not allow me to send the file for it was too large.  I could trim it down. Sat around the 8 mb mark, which was about 9 minutes worth. Maybe 4 would be enough?

Re: Vista and Windows 7

I did do 9 minutes though to thoroughly get the 'issue' to be recorded.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

I was having HUGE graphics problems with vista and faldon.   unchecking the hardware accel was the only thing that made it work decent but a lot of art was all screwed up for me.  I went into my video card setting and changed one option and now i can run faldon with hardware accel smooth as ever.   All i did was change the video cards anti aliasing option to "let the application decide".  Ever since then i've had no problems and can run with all theacceleration options on.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

I have Dual Geforce 9800 GTX SLI and the settings Dechard described. Could be an Nvidia thing. I'm going to dissect even more.

Re: Vista and Windows 7

Hmm, Blizzard is one spell that benefits hugely from hardware acceleration unfortunately.
Burning Rain somewhat as well but not as bad..
