Topic: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

A few suggestions by somebody who did a nostalgic come-back trip to Faldon after 10 years. I don't claim to be omnipotent and some features could very well be only bad, but still I wanted to throw in my 5 cents. I guess this could promote "too long, didn't read"-responses but I honestly think there might be some viable suggestions too.

- Promote Faldon (more) in the Indie sense
As a small time game-dev hobbyist I have great compassion for Faldon in its independent development sense.  For example the Indie scene has come up with several great ideas in the past, for example the Humble Bundle (www.humblebundle.com) and I see that Faldon player-base would profit from  meddling in such affairs. I know that being an MMO poses challenges, but there are distribution channels for small-time projects that still have potential. Some examples: Steam according to my knowledge only charges for advertising, not for having the game on its list. XFire is an another gaming social channel and it doesn't contain Faldon and it would
require Faldon players to promote the game on its request-channel to be added. Currently Wikipedia lists Faldon falsely as an RPG as in a pen-and-paper game, not an MMO, and the game lacks its own page.

- More sandbox
Players could be able to build their own houses, upkeep them according to certain rules, make small changes to the map etc. Abandoned houses would be derelict if not properly taken care of. Customizable NPCs could be provided for the people to create their own creative content. Of course monster/item/etc spawning would be very limited to prevent abuse. It would be really nice to be able to show-off in other means than just flashy equipment or the swing of the sword.

- A scripted NPC for ranked PvP matches
A scripted NPC that would keep track of 1v1, 2v2, 2v1, etc balanced/unbalanced matches on the PvP duel field. You could challenge certain people to matches and according to their current ranking (scaled by level, gear, etc) you would gain standing or lose it for winning/losing. The specifics for preventing abuse and making the standing statistics work well are of course hard to define, but properly done this could be of great value. Rankings could be wiped monthly or so.

- Bring back qubic exp requirement instead of quadratic
Right now it seems that the scalability of equipment versus the achieved levels are way off. This would probably need a wipe or a fresh server anyway.

- Bring back agility as a separate character stat
Archers used to be distinguished from the warriors, and as I see that one of the greatest features of Faldon is its open-ended class distribution I would love to see this stat brought back. Also defence is useless nowadays, albeit it used to have its place in e.g. PvP (with defence I could cancel out 100% of Katana damage back in the old days and be only killable with glass-swords or so).

- Balance mages in contrast to warriors (for new players at least)
At least from a new player's view-point, exping wise and the cost of spells makes this "class" very unfriendly, although it is fun to play. PvP-wise they seem decent, and if dires are the hardest they can ever imagine to kill, this is quite different from warriors. Right now the only viable way to get a proper end-game mage is to level it up as a warrior and then stat-reset or so. The newbie/mediocre quests could include more spell upgrades until e.g. mediocre levels (5-7), to some major important ones (slimes, fireball, clit) to help them get started. The amount of active scribes has collapsed, and the new players might rely on say couple people (Link, Barbie) to be able to exp.

- Add buyers-market
Similar to the current market system, but allow offers for buying certain gear. For example a person could define they are paying for 5k for any prefix/suffix wiz talisman, and 10k if it is includes Noble and Wiz/Sorc/Whatever prefix and suffix.

- Separate default broadcast channels defined by the language of the client the player is using
The broadcasts by the BRs would go to Spanish by default. People could define which language broadcasts they would like to see, and they would all be visible by default. Also you could later change your default broadcast channel from e.g. options or by using an in-game command. In-game you could use "b1", "b2", "b3"... or so to talk to english, spanish, dutch broadcast respectively and "b" to speak to your default channel.

- If the development gets active again, monthly letters to e-mails of current accounts (able to disable too)
To wake up all those sleeping Faldon-fanatics and promote false hope!

- Improved keyboard customization
My shift-key on my laptop didn't seem to work and the game seemed to have some trouble with my scandinavian keyboard - I couldn't type certain letters/symbols due to hotkey'd jumps to e.g. skill or magic tabs. I would've liked to use WSAD instead of arrow-keys for moving and couldn't find means to customize this.

The last though on my head is the potential new client (coming year 20XX?), but I think for most of the people this is obvious smile remember to include Linux and OS X compatibility, if just possible.

Syksy (Warrior) and Perestroika (Mage). A finnish oldie dude having a nostalgic come-back trip to Faldon.
I used to play around at the turn of the millenium (99-01 or so) with nicknames Some1, Some2, Nikodemes, Nikodemos and Nikodemus in guilds such as Paladins of Justice and Creatures of the Night. If anybody thinks they know me, drop me a message - I've forgotten almost everybody smile

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

I am not entirely sure if Faldon should be promoted at this current stage. Sure it needs advertising but I don't think we really should be spending too much time on that untill we get past the current client/server.

Players creating houses and NPCs seems like something that could possibly be added at a later stage. Preventing abuse would be a major hurdle for such a thing. Would be cool though, to perhaps have plots of land of a few sectors on the map on which players could build their own house but I see some major difficulties in getting that to work properly.

It would be possible to create an NPC for PvP matches but the scripting is too limited to prevent abuse.

Exp requirements should definitely go up faster but as you say, it would need a fresh server.

I wasn't around when Agility was a stat so I can't really comment on that but I can tell you that in the new client Constitution seems to have been replaced with Agility. And yes, defense is completely useless at this moment.

Most of the game is geared towards warriors, mages are almost always left out a bit. I think it's probably a waste of time to try and fix the current system and instead a new system would have to be created and actually thought through properly.

Buyer's market is something we could consider but I'm not sure how much of it should be automated, if players can just put up 10k and wait for someone to sell their talisman it would take away some of the interaction between players.

I think the idea is that in the new client there won't be a broadcast anymore as it just won't work for 100+ players. Not entirely sure what the plans for the replacement system are.

News letters would be nice indeed but they'd have to be about things that are tangible for players in the near future, like quests or newly mapped areas etc.

Keyboard customization is a must indeed.

As far as I know Zer is writing the new client without using any OS specific features so I don't think it'd be too much work to get it to run on linux/mac.

And yes... this post is all new client/server. The current client/server are doomed =O

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

This client may be doomed but dammit we still want to see types of improvement.....granted only having 2 active GMs isn't going to get shit done....what would make a difference now or when new client comes out?  If there is only 2 GMs now how much work do you really think would get done in the new client.....if new client were to arrive 2012, people would do what they do now....log in....see what's new...fuck around and if nothing more is  updated/improved after that, it will end up like the current server......I'm one who has always seem potential for this game just  don't see  it making a comeback anytime soon.

Whether Faldon will stand or fall will pretty much be determined by the involvement of one person. Zer.

He plays a key role in motivation for GMs. If GMs have to wait months or even years to get things changed on Faldon they'll get bored and lose motivation.

In the hypothetical situation where a new client/server are finished then Zer and the GMs would be working on the same thing. This would mean things get done faster and there will be more coorperation which should all be good for motivation.

That being said, two GMs working on Faldon in their spare time certainly isn't enough to create a mmorpg in any sort of acceptable timeframe.

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

Well then it's apparent that new client won't be out.....zer doesn't seem to care much for the game even tho he still gets countless 15usd payments + the countless resets being bought......he still makes money off the game he needs to get the fuck involved or give someone else server rights to atleast upload new things to the client....

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

He doesn't care about the money, it doesn't help him at all, hell im willing to bet he doesn't even check the payments he receives until he wants to go on a nice trip somewhere, its basically silly money that he doesn't care about.

He does care about the game, the C and resets are just not enough to pay for his bills so he's currently doing other work to make some money but he is intending to go work on Faldon again once he can afford to do so. Whether or not he'll finish anything before the end of the century is another question but he does care about (the future) Faldon.

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

i think they should add a normal donation button hehehe it might not help my with people maybe not even donating but its sumthin and we all know that like spy said zer is basically the back bone of this game if he doesn't work on it nothing will get done.. with that said zer uses most of the time he has keeping up with the bills thats his life faldon isent the only thing he has to worry about...

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

also seeing that nothing will be happening with the new client in the next decade or so i do not agree with spys statement says its not worth promoting the current version if we wait for the new client to come out it will be completely dead and in no shape to revive itself we have to try to keep this version alive because this is the only thing we have to play for the next decade or more .... if that makes sense to you xD

Re: Bunch of suggestions from an oldie

I would hope Zer has another source of income other than our C's and resets lol.....And  yes life outside faldon is always more important, but for christ sake the fact that no one else can atleast make upgrades and other things that only he has control over is kinda shitty.  If this client is as wasted and worthless as everyone says it is than active veteran GMs should be allowed to make those  uploads that we need.  I can believe that he does truly care for the future of faldon but if he wants to keep peoples interest in it and keep the good players that still linger around here interested then he should make a few changes  instead of having a whole game of newbage that don't know how to do half the shit the game offers lol.   I never thought i'd see the day that  i log in and the entire game is full of  br but hell that's what this game is coming to....I just thought maybe.....idk.....it could  CHANGE!
