I actually got pissy with an interviewer the other day and all I could think was "Damnit, why can't faldon just come back online..."  I don't think that's supposed to happen lol.
It is very unlikely that any of us will be reimbursed for the C time we are losing.  We didn't receive it with the last crash, and unless Tim is able and willing to do anything about it, we probably won't with this one.

Have you considered joining a Faldon Anonymous Group Frosty?
lol

I dint do it, It was Spy

Re: HAHAHA

Well, barbie, in order to join such a group, one would have to exist.  Considering the number of players left on Faldon, I suspect such a group has yet to be founded.  It is this reason that I spend my time refreshing the "New posts" page on these forums in between job applications, hoping for another like minded soul to strike up a conversation or make a post.

Re: HAHAHA

FWIW I spotted Zer on Google talk, unresponsive, but atleast not offline like he has been for the last few weeks. I sent him a message asking him to reboot the server.

Re: HAHAHA

Have any of you GMs talked to Tim about the script he was editting?  Per his request to stay away from said NPC, I would hate to see him not log on and fix the changes being made before someone tries speaking with them and crashes it again (if Zer even reboots the server).

On an additional note, I think Zer may have went ahead and rebooted it, as my client that has been running for the last X days just crashed due to a lost connection (which was not on my end).  Crossed fingers over here hoping for good news big_smile

First, my English is very bad so excuse me: P

Well I played faldon 3 years ago, I decided to return to play and I was surprised that an error occurred
with the game, I joined the forum and read some threads and was enough to realize that the
but the game is not the same as before. But we can not forget the good times of faldon, which
the game has given us! I know that today the game is released, so just we we put it
up again, we need to give life to faldon as it was before ...

Many people have stopped I know, but if we try and recreate those good times together?
calling our friends who no longer play but for one more try, fun, hobby?
the game needs to be disclosed, so that these moments grow and not die, so we can
Do ...

That's what we need to continue and not give up, I will not give up faldon, not now that
these moments are most lacking.

Thanks to a great friend and I know I'll always be able to rely <insertname> today may not
play more, however will not be forgotten by me.

Re: HAHAHA

@anonimous

Some of us do continue, and haven't given up.  That's why after a month of the server being down previously, the day it came back up there were 3 of us online lol

As far as "disclosure" of the game goes, which I can only take to mean getting it out to the world...  I would love nothing more than to see the game grow, but to be perfectly honest, I don't want more than 70-100 people playing it anyway.  It loses the community feel it's always had once you get into numbers like that.  Back to the point though, I've got a website sitting on my WAMP server here at the house, but until the GMs start caring and Zer starts showing some interaction again, that is where they will stay.  As cheap as a web server/domain may be, I'm not going to spend any money on a game when the people who can do something with it refuse to.

I also know many others that still have websites for Faldon up and running, as well as many youtube videos of Faldon.  The problem isn't getting the name out there, it's getting the people that can do something with it to care and start doing.

I've spoken to a number of new players that found the game via forums and youtube videos, and many of them tried talking their friends into playing.  Everyone has the same complaint though....  Why would they play a game that has no signs of progress?  Faldon, in it's current state, requires more than just being a gamer in order to enjoy.  You have to look beyond graphics and gameplay.  You have to be either an achiever or an addict, and in the midst of that, you have to be able to deal with flying solo.

One last point, and then I'll be done with my daily ranting (I think).  These forums aren't helping the game a single bit...  For those that do come across the main page, other pages, forums about gaming, youtube videos, or whatever else, and decide to look into some strategy or see what kind of people play, they get to see the forum boards spammed with messages from all the current players talking about how dead the game is and how nobody cares.  Yeah, I'm one of them, but since the game is dead anyway, I don't really care lol (see the irony?  it's a cycle of failure).

The only solution to see Faldon come back to life, is to completely wipe it all.  The server, website, and forums alike all need to be completely reset and start over fresh.  End the existence it currently has and give it a new life to start fresh from.

I hope he told Zer which script was causing the problem so Zer can edit it after he reboots the server. He can still let me know the name of the script so either of us can disable it whenever we find the server up and running again.

If you read this Tim, I can be reached at itsmrspy AT gmail.com. I'm not entirely sure what brought you back, but it took Zer like a month to reboot it last time so I don't know if you want to keep checking if it's up for that long.

Re: HAHAHA

The only day I decided to reinstall Faldon and I couldn't log in.  I thought the game retired so I uninstalled the client.  I decided to check on the forum one last time and, correct me if I am wrong, it seems like the server had crashed due to a certain script?  Looks like Zer will not going to reboot the server anytime soon... at least not this year...

ironically the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago when i decided to return to faldon, but the website was down too and i thought the game just didnt exist anymore...

i think there is a problem with Zer's auto-reboot system if he even had one, because normally when the server crashes it is just restarted and up in a short time. as of late, it has taken much longer periods to reboot, up too weeks.

as far as the script thing goes, one of the GM's will be fixing it once the server is up, and as long as nobody talks to the NPC that the script is for, the server wont crash

...you should leave while you can though wink

Re: HAHAHA

I don't quite believe Faldon should be wiped. It has such a low population atm , with a few extra vets in the background who could popup at anytime with a crazy collecction. If the game were to grasp the attention of more users, it would progress for sure. Markets and socialism, thievery, and pkurarseness would thrive for sure. Spots would be more camped and then people would fight over who was strong or had enough friends to camp the spot. I have played Faldon pretty much since it's beginning days and I have faith that it will always return. As i've disappeared and returned sooooo many times to see so many different people running the markets or majority of shiny items for sale.  I love this game and I hope it never dies, I still to this day attempt to convince every person that talks to meh on a gamer lvl to play Faldon. I hear people talking about how the game isn't progressive. It's the people that make the game progressive imo. This game is infinite for fook sake, there's no max lvl, there's no cap to skills, there's an open script for anyone bold enough to challenge it's limits and make the creators program harder.

game the fuk on, i'm drunk n i miss faldon and it's humpppppp day.

get the server back on zzzz plz?

Re: HAHAHA

Faldon has no max lvl, but there is no content past a certain point. Items, gear, stats, skills and quests all stop.
Imagine being immortal but confined to an infinite space of nothing. That is the gaming equivalent of Faldon. If the game was half as good as most the people who stick around make it out to be; it would be overflowing with life and prosperity. Most the people need to come to term with a few things, one of them being at the end of the day this game is nothing more than an old project for James to which he will never really give it much attention or care what his players think or feel about his hiatuses. With all the far more advanced games out and available, this game doesn't have the appeal it once had many years ago. Games become obsolete so fast these days. A game that has been basically abandoned for like 8 years outside of GM orchestrated frivolous content and minor changes done to the items; is beyond obsolete it is ancient. At this point even if he did finish the new client, it is already outdated. Faldon contains a few unique and innovative game features but leaves a lot to be desired. If it didn't, like I said before it would be much more than people who occasionally check in or come here to shoot the shit or troll.

Except in my case, frivolous = super-awesome...

Re: HAHAHA

Faldon was a great project in its hayday. I can hardly fathom the hours that I spent playing this game on and off over the years. Once and a while I pop in on the forum hoping that the game has gone open source, or had a renewed level of activity. I sense that the end is near for Faldon. It was a great game with some very unique attributes.

Faldon will never end, it's like a bacteria.  It slowly infects those who play.  Some are able to fend it off, while others are taken over by it.  And just like bacteria, it will never completely go away.  I see 2 possible scenarios:
1) Zer shuts the server down and stuffs it into a closet.  15 years down the road, he sees the server and says "What did I have on this machine I wonder?"  He boots it up and BLAM!!!  There sits Faldon, waiting for some unsuspecting stranger to log on.  As Zer starts feeling nostalgic and logs in to reminisce on some child-hood memories, someone randomly feels that same nostalgia and tries logging on, knowing that the server no longer exists.  BLAM!!!  Now an older player is logged in, shitting bricks that 20 years later the server is alive after all, and not a damn thing has changed.  They immediately tell their friends, and now we've got the same 20 people playing faldon again, 15 years after what we all thought was it''s final crash.

2)  Zer gets robbed, and like all robbers, they take the most useless, absurd looking items for no apparent reason what-so-ever.  They sell the tower to one of their friends for a low low price of $10 or so.  This friend just happens to be a curious IT guy and decides to boot the server up and find out something about the previous owner.  He discovers it hosts a game called Faldon, and decides to leave the server online and see what kind of traffic it gets.  We all happily log back on after a few months of not knowing what happened, and just assume that Zer has been too lazy to do dick, but finally got so bored that hit decided to hit the power button a few times.  The next thing we know, random NPCs are popping up, SBs look like boots, and everybody spawns as a ninja turtle.

Either way, Faldon will never truly die, it just might take a prolonged break and possibly end up in the hands of an experimental IT novice.

There is also the 3rd possibility, where we the players perform the B&E (not bacon and eggs), and turn it into a truly Americanized version of failure, uploading scripts and making edits as we see fit, because we all know what is best for the game lol

Re: HAHAHA

I'm pretty sure Faldon isn't running off a box in Zer's basement - when the current iteration was released the server was moved to a hosting facility.  Admittedly, I haven't been paying much attention in the last several years, so maybe it got moved back to his house, but I doubt it.

Just pointing out that your potential scenarios need modification - you'll need to do a B&E on a hosting facility, not on some random house.
