Game becoming very Laggy

After about an hour or two the game recently likes to slow down to a crawl. I noticed at first that re-logging fixed this issue, but then I also noticed that changing maps also sped the game up (back to normal). It seems there is something in game (accumulating?) which brings performance way down until one of these actions is taken
