Yes you have to pay to play. Unless you get your internet for free.

Go to netzero and get 10 hours a month for free....

How I would use the time.

1 hour - playing faldon

To answer your question, Wooly, there are two types of accounts in Faldon, one is the peasant account, which is the basic free account.  The other is the citizen account, which costs $5 a month, but has some advantages over the peasant account.
