Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

Assuming Zer would be on board for a wipe, just resetting all characters will not be enough. Sure it'll be interesting for a while but there's major underlying flaws in various parts of the game that need adjusting for it to be successful.

Also, an alternative for a wipe could be a different server. The current one could be abandoned and left to whoever wants to remain on there.

In any case, we will need a list of NPCs/spawns/features that would need to be changed/removed/added for a restart to be successful. Let's make that list?

- Full repairs by Tinker should be removed. Tinker himself can stay but he can only repair up to say, 80% or 90%. This gives him an edge over regular blacksmithing repairs but makes sure items decay as they should.

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

remove tinker, remove +% from npcs, and all the current content will last a long time i think, it will make a real economy again because the game will play as it was intended, items be broken and removed from the game without tinker so good items will actually be rare again and everyone wont have the same items x 100 in their banks lol

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

The current server can be adjusted to make things work again. A wipe would be absolutely perfect, but the game has to change. We need to find a way to ''carry'' a new player to a certain level. I know the starting difficulty that Faldon is loved by many, but it not as big of a change so move this up to level 50/100. We need to make more repetitive quests like Haggy. Per example: A NPC can be fought against, killing the NPC will grant you xxx points on that quest chain, you can then change in those points for EXP. It doesn't need to be a faster way to level, it should offer a new way of playing the game.

Next is changing the economy. Removing Tinker (Yes please now. Now.) will help the cause, but with the current server it wont be a smart idea, because of the fact that prices of said rare items will raise out of the roof and not obtainable unless you pay top dollar. Indestructible items will be the best items to have in game and the ones with that wont just sell them.

Perhaps a new market is an idea. Player owned NPC. Like a house, but not. You can either own or hire a NPC for a while. You can drop your items in there to sell them through the NPC and take them off. This would make it easier for scribers to sell their books. Set a standard price on books and just click and sell. The NPC would offer an option to buy the item from you at either a fair price or a low price.

We have to make a new way to make gold moving again. Back in the day when the economy still worked, people would hire others to gather resources for them so they could raise their skills. We should try and find a way so that new players can earn their money from other players by doing something for them. An option would to make quests that require certain stackables/items. Their demand would go up, since we are all lazy fat fucks to get it ourselfs.

Also, and I've mentioned it before; We need to make the game world smaller. The maps that are live today were meant to hold alot of players, which we don't have. I think we need to go back to 1 map. The reason for this is interaction. Even though everyone has been AFK all the time for the last few years we need to interact more in the game besides Broadcast. New players/players coming back have to see interaction if they want to stay on a game. For a new player to just jump in the Faldon community through chat can be a very hard thing to do.

There a quite a few things that need to be done if the game has to work towards a wipe. I'd say we use the Test Server to experiment with a few things and use the current server to better the game play.

why not just tweak rick to pay proper amount for items instead of renting an npc lol

i also agree the current maps are just too big and there is alot of space that isnt even being used on most of the maps im sure they could be compressed and get rid of alot of the spawns so people would actually camp and level in your guild area rick

This sounds familiar.  big_smile

An alternative, would be to go into /shop mode when you're AFK. You're character becomes a clickable NPC to sell items when you're AFK - gives people a reason to stay logged in longer.

Another option is a newbie starting zone that has increased XP, but only allows you to get to a predefined level, and skill before making you leave to the 'mainland'. It gives new players a chance to experience the game without being tortured; it will need to be well done as to be interesting, fun and give a good representation of the game itself.

Although, Faldon is dead. Wu has all but confirmed a new server is not coming as development is dead.

Angeldust,

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

yeah there will never be a new client, but the current one can be altered and we could use the test server as an alternate world to start over fresh and have an economy, competition, pvp everything back in the game.

Wipe this server.

In retirement till faldon has something for players over level 300 to do.

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

It feels like only warriors/non-crafters are pushing for a server wipe.

Think there could be a reason for that?

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

i play mage all the time, even though i am not certain what being mage/warrior has to do with wanting a wipe, I am also on the jacks board, So not really sure where you are coming from.

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

Warriors can bounce back from a wipe much more easily than mages and crafters. How much GP does it take to raise spells to decent levels? How many years did it take us to get a single divine scribe? How much of that was fueled by duped materials?

My point is that one of faldon's many problems is that warriors are less reliant on skills (attacks always succeed; spells, not so much), so they can grind much more easily than mages, and have a lower cost associated with creating them. A wipe does nothing to change that.

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

Since the dawn of time, people leveled as b-mage, then zerker, than turned to mage to play around with PKing or some variant of that. Since PKing is dead, so is being a Mage.

Mage or Warrior, doesn't really matter. None of the classes make sense. They haven't updated the game since highest level was 300-400 so there's no continual play value.

Since the work load it would take for the game to make sense given the average player level is now over 500 is far higher than it would take to simply wipe the server and have people start over from 0, it makes a shit load more sense to just wipe now, and update and balance whats fair based on how the game changes depending on drop rates, no dupes, etc. etc.

Suggesting band-aids to fix this thing is silly. I'd love to start over from scratch, I've got all kinds of items, hours, and characters built, I won't miss them even a little bit to be able to play Faldon the way I did in the early 2000's.

Re: Suggestion: wipe the current server

Also, I think removing tinker and raising drop rates would be the cat's pajamas. It's entirely needed moving forward. and Quite frankly I don't give a shit if indestructible items are worth way more than norms. That's the way it was before, when SB's , Gm robes, good pre/suff tofs, ghelms, and burning zerker talis was the way of life.   Remember, M16's and AB's were for kicking Dutch ass in guild wars only.

I remember several times when GM's would log in, fill the town with blues, and one or two would be holding a SB. We could get back to that type of stuff. Make events mean something, make interaction and items meaningful.'

Make Faldon the way it was when people were leveling to fight. Ban people for using bots for PKing. PKing is what made Faldon, that seems to be what's forgotten in the whole discussion.  I want to go back to a time where you'd work for a week, level up, skill up, start some shit, stat change and PK.  That's what made this game. Not silly inflated gold stacks and skills, levels, and junk that's good for nothing, because PKing is dead.

TIL that warriors dont have the same spells as mages, even if they dont play as mage lollllllll. there are also npcs that sell all the spells you need and you can get level 11 from most of them lol.

Drop rates are fine the way they are, you can camp everything easily 100% afk with pets to get whatever you want lol.

Perhaps Zer could open another realm or world, whatever you would like to call it, that people could start fresh on if they wanted and everyone else can let their shit rot on the current one.

I think this is all part of what actual moderation would fix. Afkers just getting jailed/banned as they're supposed to. Botters suffering the same fate. People actually being forced to play the game would be a mind blowing revolution.  Figure in items being destroyed, rather than fixable, rares would be..... well, rare.

That would be an acceptable solution for me as well. Zer could pay for it pretty quick too, if he sold some SB's and GM robes for USD. Hell, I'd bet the load on the server is so low nowadays he could just set up a virtual machine on the same Faldon server and have next to no expense on starting a new server.

I'd go one further. Zer, If you ever read this post, and consider doing the right thing for the players, I'll pay to have it hosted for the first year. If it takes off like I'd assume it would, after that it should be self sustaining. If it's not, take it down.
