Topic: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

Long shot but about time someone tried to do something rather than the endless procrastination we've had in the past. If it's a success then we can use the funds to use Google's Adword advertisements. They have an offer where if you add £25 (roughly $50USD) then they will add £75 credit themselves. The target is $500USD, which should be enough to advertise the game for a good while.

If any GMs want to get involved with the process or if anyone has any better ideas for how to advertise then please feel free to chip in. I'm more than happy to pass on the funds to a GM at the end of the fundraiser or alter the receiving Paypal address if that would make people feel more comfortable.

Peace.

*Edit* I've made the first donation of £5 (around $10USD) to get the ball rollin'. If 49 more people donate the same amount then we've reached our target.

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

Good Day,

Fighured I woudl hop on and check the forums.. see how the game has been fairing.  For anyone that remembers me, I am one of the oldie players.  Back during the original alpha and beta and for a couple years after that.

I highly doubt the campaign will do anything.

My reasons behidn this?  I have tried several times to get back into this game, but the current crowd pushes newbies away quite a bit.  For instance, constant kill stealing in the newbie areas.  Not sure why, I suppose some folks get a kick off of doing that to new players.  The other few times I was out trying to mine in the desert.  I started getting verbally bashed because "another player was there first" even though we had the entire area to ourselves.  The chat is a mess, the gameplay hasnt changed in as long.

The only thing that would breath any life into the game would be an entire game reset with a new map.  Statistics have shown in Faldon that as soon as a wipe and new map plus some advertising happens, the game absolutely explodes to life with new players.

As it stands, merely donating some money into a campaign to advertise wouldn't do much.  Any new players only stay a day or so before they hit the trail.

The crowd sucks right now, to put it frankly.  It is rather amazing, considering some of the longer term more vocal players have aged at least a few years, yet their IQ seems to have sunk to the toilet as they get older.

Any of the old school players feel more then welcome to toss me a PM on here, I'll add you onto Skype or any other messenger, would love to get back in touch!

I always tried to argue for the reset route, for the exact reasons specified above, but the newer people who had never been through a reset complained about the idea so much that Zer never really went for it.  It's a shame, really, because it could've been super helpful a couple years into the current generation client.

Well, if you had actually been on the game in the last couple of years you'd probably see there was a vote accessed through the sign asking people what they thought of a server wipe (Yes: 18, No: 9) so I don't see your point. Most players, including people like myself who have spent a few $$'s on items, would welcome a wipe. Having items on Faldon is sort of like being buried with rare historical artifacts.. pointless. The whole reason I tried to set up a fundraiser is because the option of a wipe isn't really an option. Asking Zer for a wipe is the equivalent of a five year old asking for a third candy bar, it is not happening. So why shouldn't we explore some different avenues?

When did you last actually log on? I might not have been successful in raising this money but Faldonite's attitudes to newbies has changed a fair amount. Most players will happily answer questions in /bchat and if they speak to the right person then they get a little bit of pocket money. The 'toxic' players who blighted Faldon for so long seem to have all but gone.

Ultimately, this is exactly the response I was dreading to get and confirms what I have long thought about our community; we are so hung up about Zer's lack of involvement that we want Faldon to die out of spite  tongue

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

Dedsox, I don't know that a wipe right now (or anytime in the last few years) would do a lot of good.  I mean, it would definitely do some good (in terms of solving issues with the economy), but when it became clear that this iteration wasn't ever going to be reset and balanced, some of the GMs started building for that paradigm (which is how you got things like GEG), so a wipe with the current state of things would theoretically imbalanced in different ways.

I totally understand and respect your plight, though - I had plans of my own on how to "fix" things during my time as a GM, and put a lot of effort into it all for naught.  I wasn't trying to take anything away from what you're doing, just chiming in to agree with Loki.

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

A wipe would not do any good, until a new player base has been established. I know a few love the game enough to stay, find a way to attract new players, but accept the games fate.

Many of you have invested countless hours in this game, I for one have to give you all props, however the owner of this game have moved on in life. Stay if you like, fiend for progression if it's a must, but this game is dead. Be in a form of denial, keep on using the game as a chat room, but take it on faith Faldon has met an end.

A new player base will can not be established until there is a wipe - so there you have it. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

You guys are full on retarded, the game doesn't need a wipe. It needs a better economy system. Currently when you get a drop of some sorts, the only way of selling it is to another player. Which means every single item stays in game forever and eventually no one wants anything cause they have everything. This is why I quit and so many others

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

Sykes, this iteration of Faldon was actually built around item decay - you'd get drops, but those items wouldn't last forever.  Tinker ruined that, though.

And I think there will always be people who think it's a good game and as long as its around, it will be enjoyed smile even if it's only by a small portion of the population. Isn't that better then not having Faldon? I'm sad I can't play right meow.

I would surely come back to this game if this works. Wish someone could finish the update somehow.
It would be a shame to see this game disappear forever.  hmm

Your constant crying is pathetic. Get a fucking job and stop bitching about being sad. You could afford an entire system working at McDonalds; surely you've not been lucky enough to have a child of your own with a real woman, you have no offspring or family to support.

"This" is not working as people patently do not want to donate money for an advertising that, in all fairness, Zer should be paying for himself. The only way this game will recuperate is if people come back regardless of how busy it is at the moment and stay.

A lot of oldbies decide they feel nostalgic for Fally and would probably even buy C but log on and see 5 people and think what's the point? Everyone should double log their old toons and then triple log a new character and pretend that there's been a wipe. No transferring cash/items from old toons to new.

It's a wipe without a wipe and it's the only way to make Fally fun again. Peace.

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

Ok so, I'm hoping i'm not beating a dead horse here but I suggest we open like a business page for Faldon Online on facebook and then i'm more than happy to pay a little bit to get the page promoted...

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

It's all a waste of money unless Zer is on board and dedicates a significant portion of his time to Faldon.

20

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

Ok but right now as it stands the community is very low, if there was some sort of spike you know "density" wise it may (influence) Zer for further development....I really do love this game because of so many memories....It couldn't hurt to try in my opinion.

Re: Faldon Advertisement Campaign Fundraiser

You know, I think if we keep on trying, after the numerous years we've been trying already, Zer might actually die before we stop trying.

I miss having internet at the house, just sayin'

I should probably just leave the community really
