Topic: A long shot. (to Zer)

A long shot indeed. If you get the chance to look at this and have the time to reply, please do.

A simple question:

What are your plans with Faldon?

Re: A long shot. (to Zer)

I'm pretty sure he has no plans for Faldon.  Someone needs to steal the source or buy it reasonably from him if there is ever to be another Faldon.  We all have lives outside the game yet all find our way back here somehow, he doesn't.  That just tells me that he has no intentions for this game.  Those are that willing to take step forward and take over game please do so and lets get this thing moving.  The potential this game has is what keeps us wondering and hoping that it comes to life, yet here we are years later still waiting.

P.S. I still love you Rob. <3 lol

He won't sell it.
I'm in the midst of getting my bachelor's degree. Let's just say the major concentration of game programming isn't chosen for a reason. Programming pays more (on average) when it's not game related. Here in MA, a lot of programming jobs start at 80K+ and even upwards of 100K annually. Personally I get why he doesn't spend that much time here. Faldon is a hobby, he has probably sunk more time and money into it than most of us would like to believe. I had a car like that once. I was smart enough to sell it and move on  yikes

im paying 5$ a month until i get a new client.... or until the server is offline.

hope makes the new world

Re: A long shot. (to Zer)

It isn't a hobby for him, cause he doesn't do anything with it lol.  He only just hears about it when people bitch about server most likely.  He would be better off selling it.  Doubt he would but still, that is truly the only "hope" this game would have, to be under new management.
Juzy, when you start making that much, let me know, so I can mooch off you smile

Re: A long shot. (to Zer)

Pssh.. I tried to purchase Faldon off Zer a few years back.. I offered $1500, which I dont think was a bad deal considering only 5 people were generally online at a time, and he was probably only getting.. around or less than $100 a month in Citizen revenue.. And unless he committed to it at that time, his revenue was only going to continue to go down.

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely nostalgic towards Faldon. It was one of the first multiplayer online games I ever played.. actually no, it "was" the first one.  But I can also see Zer's perspective as well. At the time, this game.. his creation, was in fact, a success. When you put time into something like that, its like a piece of art you created and people appreciated. Your not going to be quick to let something like that go. Probably many good memories to be had, along with a few headaches. I'd still offer to purchase it anytime he was willing to sell, just to salvage a bit of my own nostalgia.. And because I think there is still a market and community of people out there who could really enjoy it.

But.. with time, and technological advancement.. this game fades. Newer generations have higher expectations.. graphically, systematically, crave new content on a shorter time scale.. I don't mean this game needs to be entirely overhauled or to "sell out".. It just needs some love. *sigh*

Re: A long shot. (to Zer)

Yeah, 1500? that's probably an insult to him lol.  I'm sure back then being offered 15-20k wasn't worth it cause of the time he put into it.  I'm sure he would do it now but frankly it's too late.  This game is his baby, and it's understandable that he wouldn't want to let it go.  But frankly he is ruining it more by not giving someone else the chance to make it better.   sad

Re: A long shot. (to Zer)

15k-20k?? Seriously, who in the hell offered that? This game is practically for nostalgia or third world countries as of now. Times have changed, technology changed. Sure, about a half a decade to a decade back.. maybe.. and that's a long stretch on a maybe. Sprites are so much easier to make.. programming and the skill sets required to work on mmorpg platform have become more common.. Not to mention the costs the buyer would have to incur for trying to turn this game around.. Server cost to handle more traffic/players, possibly hiring people to aide in content design/implementation, domain fees, etc.. Faldon survives as it stands right now mostly to cover it's own cost to run, maybe netting Zer some snack money each month.

That said, I get it. It is his project and his baby. That would maybe qualify as an insult in the perspective of sentimental value vs. actual worth. But it was cash money, free and clear.. I had a bike when I was younger, had it for years.. even after I had outgrown it.. Did I enjoy those memories, yes.. did I eventually sell it.. yes. Do I regret it? Maybe shortly afterwards yes, but now.. haha hell no. Same with my first car which I adored.. same after breaking up with your first girlfriend (unless she dumped you).. I mean, when your not willing to take responsibility for something.. or better yet, just don't have the time or patience.. in such case with the server crashes and literally no new content.. sentimentalism aside.. cut your losses.. cherish the memories.. take some money and use it for a new project or as a means to move forward.. granted $1,500 might not get much, $15k-$20k sure could. My only other possible conclusion, Zer is wealthy enough to not really care about selling faldon as the excess income is not something he really needs.. which may be a possibility. Hell, I don't know the guy.

The picture I had posted before was an account statement. I didn't want to leave it up for obvious reasons but when I posted that I would pay 30K for Faldon and all of its rights and source; i was not joking to say the least.
Faldon has never been a money maker for James, anybody with any business sense realizes when you only charge 5$ for a service and there aren't many players the cost to run a server will eventually be > the revenue generated (making it a net loss) and that is why a lot of games are F2P but "P2W" these days. Every game makes more money being free and selling services and virtual property than charging a monthly premium. A monthly premium is an immediate deterrent for a lot of people. The option to buy items and bonuses encourages players with money they're willing to dispose on a game to spend and gives the opportunity to generate revenue that will in most cases support the non buying players and make a net income. Here you can play free or pay for some (minor) privileges. Then think of the times when there was even a little more than 10 people but all BR players with a P.  roll Faldon was a game with much potential. With all of what has gone on I am sure even if the new client were to come out tomorrow, it wouldn't change that it would bring maybe 30-50 DIFFERENT people back and even still that is a joke. Even if there is 50 people on; do the math; 50x5=250. To run a server per month can range from 100$ to 300$+ per month varying on speed and etc. Then when you consider the hours this man has spent on this game; it is hardly compensation.

Angeldust,

Think again my "too soon to speak" counter part. I was a gm; never a moderator of these boards. Therefore, I cannot take credit for that edited post.  I thought you were saying that because there was nothing there when you came along. Perhaps it was our dear friend, Mumblee.

Yep, I vaguely recall that one.  I don't remember exactly what was said this time - and there's no change log to go back and view it, but my guess it was some sort of bigotry.  I generally only edit racial slurs and spam, and change it to something nonsensical.

Moral of the story - don't be a racist or a spammer.
